A brief hymn of just two verses and a refrain, this song was written as a call to Communion, but could be used during or after Communion as well. The song emphasizes the importance of actually feeding hungry people and breaking down social barriers as crucial aspects of the sacrament, suggesting that when we do such things, the Beloved Community or “Kin-dom of God” may come near. There is no guarantee, and we can’t make the Kin-dom come near, or stay permanently, but we can set the table and live in hope.
