Description
“Let the Children Come” is based upon the story of Jesus welcoming children in Mark 10:13-16 and parallels. It is a congregational refrain, but with a brief opening section for a choir, song leader, or ensemble. It is written so that the latter part, sung by the congregation, can be sung by itself, if so desired. The song was originally written to be sung as children are coming forward for a children’s sermon. At Plymouth UCC in Lawrence, KS it sometimes took children quite some time to come downstairs from the balcony and make their way forward for the children’s sermon. So, we used this “traveling music” as they made their way to the chancel. On days when our numbers were smaller and there were no children in the balcony, we used only the congregation’s part.
The keyboard part was written with organ in mind, but will work for piano as well.
